Signs they need replacing
- Black smoke and low power
- Whistling or siren noise from the turbo
- Excessive oil in the intake
- Rough idle, misfire or fuel in the oil
- Hard starting when hot
One symptom rarely justifies a replacement on its own. Two or three together - for example oil consumption plus blow-by plus smoke - almost always do.
How to verify fitment before you order
- Read the OEM number off the old part rather than from a catalogue drawing.
- Give the engine serial number. Baudouin builds the same nominal model in more than one configuration.
- Check turbo shaft play and end float, and have injectors flow-tested - a nozzle that passes visual inspection can still over-fuel.
- Confirm the sizes. If a crankshaft has been ground or a block decked, standard parts may no longer fit.

- Included components: a liner kit with pistons, rings and pins is not comparable to a bare liner
Installation and break-in notes
- Clean the bore or seating surface and check it for damage before fitting
- Lubricate sealing surfaces with the recommended assembly lubricant, not grease
- Torque in the specified sequence and stages - bolted joints on diesel engines are torque-to-yield on many models
- After a rebuild, run at moderate load and re-torque or re-check as the manual requires
